Who was Nostradamus?
If you've ever spent time poring over the astrology columns in the papers, then you would have heard of Nostradamus.
He was born Michel de Nostradame in St. Remy de Provence, France. The French astrologer born in 1503, published his barely scrutable collection of prophecies, the Centuries, in 1555.
He made many prophecies, both for his current era and the distant future. Most famous are his Centuries, a series of 942 verses, grouped in sets of 100, describing future events. A single verse is commonly called a quatrain and 100 quatrains a Centurie. The quatrians written are supposedly predict the entire future of the human race from the mid-1500s until around the year 4000.
The first of his ten books, all entitled "Centuries", was published in 1555. Each volume contained 100 predictions written in four line verses and which were written in an enigmatic hybrid of French, Latin and Greek.
